Rooibos Tea Tasting

With Rocklands situated in the ‘rooibos capital of the world’, it is only fitting to learn more about this healthy warm beverage from where it originates. Although every accommodation spot and restaurant in the Rocklands area are bound to have rooibos tea available, it is well worth visiting some of the nearest rooibos tea houses and farms for an enriched understanding and experience into the world of rooibos tea.

There are two rooibos tea houses in Clanwilliam, which is only a 25km drive from Rocklands. These are the Rooibos Tea House and the House of Rooibos, both offering their own rooibos tea tasting, various rooibos products as well as further information about rooibos tea.

The House of Rooibos is a new initiative by Rooibos Ltd. that was opened more recently and it includes a tearoom and tea garden, as well as a shop and information centre. It is situated on a new, bigger and better premises than the previously popular Rooibos Ltd. factory shop. While the humble roots of Rooibos Ltd. can be traced back to 1954, today it is the largest rooibos tea producer and distributor in the world, supplying more than 45 countries across the globe.

The House of Rooibos hence offers an extensive variety of rooibos teas including original, organic and flavoured teas. A variety of 13 different rooibos and honey-bush teas are available in the tearoom and tea garden, along with rooibos cappuccinos, milk-shakes, iced-teas and ice-creams.

A wide variety of rooibos teas together with a range of rooibos-based products are on sale at the shop, should you wish to take a bit of this Cederberg wonder with you on your way.

The House of Rooibos information centre also offers a 10-minute long presentation that includes the history, production process and health benefits of rooibos tea, to round off your rooibos tea tasting and learning experience.

The Rooibos Tea House has been a popular stop for tea lovers since they opened their doors in 2011. They are situated at the first left as one enters Clanwilliam from the N7, which is the same left as the Velskoendraai Plaasmark, where the tea house is based.

The Rooibos Tea House stocks over 100 rooibos blends and flavours which range from natural, herbal, fruity and sweet, to green, spicy and floral. These are all available for both tasting and purchase.

The Rooibos Tea House also offers a unique tea tasting which allows you to choose any seven rooibos teas and to enjoy them while reading about the history of rooibos, the production process and some further facts about this famous South African tea. Freshly baked goods are also available to be enjoyed with the tea tasting. The tea tasting is a great way to experience the variety of rooibos flavours and to decide which ones you would like to purchase for further enjoyment at home.
